Racing Notes Earnings of Kena £2,646: The best effort of his busy but hardly brilliant career was recorded on Thursday by Kena in the Parliamentary Handicap, in which he ran third last year, when Tidewaiter was the winner.

Kena began racing as a four-year-old and in four years he has contested 77 events for ten wins, seven seconds and six thirds, his earnings totalling £2,646, including trophies. As a four-year-old, Kena, from the stable of A. McGregor, was produced five times, gaining his first success at Te Rapa in the winter. In the following year he contested 28 races, winning at Te Awamutu, Tauranga, Avondale and Otaki, being saddled up for these and subsequent successes by W. G. Stephens. The Ta Timi Kara Handicap at the lastnamed meeting was his initial victory in open company. His second to Tidewaiter in the Avondale Cup of 1938 brought his earnings Io over £l,OOO, and his two captures in 20 starts that term were the Avondale Plumpton Handicap and the Foxton Cup. During the current season Kena has run 24 times, gaining firsts in the Gothard Handicap at Woodville and the Rotorua Cup, a race in which he had run second the previous year. Yesterday’s win brought his earnings for the season to £950. Kena is owned by Mr. K. L. Richards, who has raced him throughout.
