The Millerton mine continues to work full time.

Mr. J l . Tiplady, has returned to the Hill after a holiday at Nelson. The Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, has re 7 turned to Millerton from Nelson. Mr. W. Watson, Junr., County delegate on the Greymouth-Buller executive of the General Labourers’ Union, attended a meeting in Westport on Saturday. A meeting of the miners was held at the bath house on Friday morning Mr. W. Clarke presiding. The meeting was held to endeavour •to bring about a settlement of travelling time to the Old Dip section. After a good discussion, a motion was moved to decide in effect whether the men would proceed to work or otherwise. A vote was taken and the men, by a very small majority, decided to work. The meeting decided that a deputation meet the officials of the Company on Saturday and try to bring about a settlement and a meeting is to be called on Sunday to hear the report. A public meeting was held in Peggie’s Hall on Thursday night to form a Patriotic Committee. Mr. Ft. Jack read out the circular received from Mr. C. Schadick (County Secretary-Engineer) The Hon. W’. H. Mclntyre then stated the function of other committees and how they endeavoured to raise funds for the soldiers’ comforts Nominations were taken for official- positions as follows—President: Mr. L. Shannon; Secretary-Treasurer: Constable R. Waring; Men’s Committee: W. Clarke, T. Porter, J. Burt, R. Harker, C. Orman, Hon. W. H. Mclntyre and Mr. G. White; Ladies’ Committee: Mesdames Clarke, Porter, Burt, Harker, Orman, Mclntyre, White and A. Wood.

The Physical Fitness Committee held their usual w'eekly Whist Drive Tournament in the Rechabite Hall on Monday evening. There was a very good attendance. Mrs. P. Olsen and Mr. G. .Flannagan won the ladies’ and gent’s prizes respectively.
