AKAROA CENTENNIAL
NEXT SATURDAY'S CELEBRATION WELLINGTON, Apr'l 13. Postponed from March 30 b. cause of the death of the late Prime Minister (Mr. Savage), the National Centennial celebrations at Akaroa will take place next Saturday, when there will' be re-enacted before the Governor-General, Lord Galway, the Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser), anti a distinguished company, the first exercise of sovereignty there. The North Island official party, which will include most of the Ministers of the Crown, Members of Parliament, and the Consul for France in New Zealand (M. A. Pouquet), and numbering in all three hundred, will leave Wellington next Friday night for Akaroa.
A party of forty Maoris, representing natives of the Island, will leave Wellington on Thursday night. With the South Island contingent it is expected that three hundred Maoris will be in residence in the Maori camp, which has been established in the recreation ground at Akaroa. The celebration has been organised by the general secretary of the Centennial Branch of the Internal Affairs Department, and by the director of pageantry, Mr. W. S. Wauchop.
