Further relaxation of meat rationing is the subiecf of a statement today bv the Ministry of Food, which deals also with doubling the butter ration as from Monday. From Tuesday onwards, sausages, sausage meat, meat pasties, meat pastes, meat puddings, and all other manufactured meat products, whatever their meat content, will be sold free of the ration. Furthermore, the issue of extra meat rations to diabetic patients is now formally authorised. LONDON. .March 22. Easter holidays began with a great exodus from the cities to the country and seaside, almost similar to peacetime traffic. All the main-line railways generallv equalled normal Easter figures, and in some cases exceeded them. The usual crowds of holidaymakers were augmented bv large numbers of men on leave from the Forces, and relatives visiting the evacuated children. RUGBY. March 22. The Lord Mayor’s Red Cross Fund rose this week bv £20.000. It now stands at £1,241,500. WASHINGTON. March 22.
The Army announces that the Douglas Companv is building a 70ton four-engined suner-bomber to
carry twenty-eight tons of bombs, six thousand miles non-stoo range. The wingspan is 210 feet and the speed over two hundred miles per hour. The inital cost is a million dollars, but it can be produced in quantities at from 300,000 to 350.000 dolars. Tests are expected early in summer.
