BROKEN HILL STEEL WORKS

MAY CLOSER DOWN. IF STRIKE CONTINUES'. SYDNEY, March 23. The “Herald’s” Newcastle correspondent says it is generally expected that if the coal strike continues, Broken Hill Proprietary Steelworks will practically suspend production within the next few weeks. This, in turn will lead to the dismissal of men from industries dependent on the steelworks for raw materials. A motion was carried at the Easter Labour Conference pledging the support of State aid for the striking coalminers. It was decided that all members of the party would pay a levy of a shilling a week towards financing the strike.
