HOLY WEEK
At St. Patrick’s Church The solemnity of Holy Week was observed at St. Patrick’s Church, beginning with the office of Tenebrae on Wednesday evening, and on Thursday morning, Solemn High Mass was sung by Very Rev. Father J. Long, Rev. Fathers A Kennedy, S.M., being Deacon and Rev. Father F. Kelly, Sub-Deacon, while Rev. Father J. Holohan was Master of Ceremonies. At the conclusion of Mass there was the Procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose, where, throughout the day and night, perpetual Adoration was kept up, the night hours being observed by the male members of the Sacred • Heart Confraternity. The office of Tenebrae was also said on Thursday evening. Yesterday, Good Friday, there was a crowded congregation for the Mass of the Pre-Sanctified. The Passion was sung by Rev. Fathers J. Finerty (Hokitika), A. Gregory. (Greymouth) and P. Joyce (Ross). There followed the unveiling of the Cross, and the procession from the Altar of Repose. Rev. Father Long celebrated Mass, assisted by Rev. Fathers A. Kennedy (Deacon), and A. Gregory (Sub-Dea-con); Rev. Father .Holohan being Master of Ceremonies. The choir was in attendance and sang the “Popule Meus” and Vexila Regis.” In the afternoon there was another crowded congregation, when Stations of the Cross were said, and Tenebrae was also recited last evening. Mass this morning will be that of Easter Eve. To-morrow (Easter there will be three Masses at St. Patrick’s, and in the evening Solemn Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
