Enlists MR MEACHEN FOR ENGINEERSBLENHEIM, March 21. Mr E. P. Meachen. M.P. for Marlborough, has offered himself for overseas service with the New Zealand Field Engineers. He has been advised he will be required to enter camp at Burnham next month, and is expected to leave overseas with the first reinforcement engineers’ company, sailing with the Third Echelon. Mr Meachen has had a long anti varied experience in building construction work in many parts of New Zealand. Before his election lo Parliament in 1935 he was engaged in bridge-building and installation of mining equipment. Since the election, he has been acting as co-opted member of the Minister of Public Works. In the Great War, _Mr Meachen held a non-commissioned rank, with the field engineers, leaving with the Fourth Reinforcements m 1915. He served at. Gallipoli ana France, concluding with the army of occupation in Germanv. He returned to New Zealand in 1919. RUNANGA FAREWELL. At a social and dance held, in the Runanga Gymnasium on Wednesday evening, Mr. R. McTaggart (Mayor or Runanga) took the opportunity co present a wallet of notes to the fol lowing: Privates T. Timlin, M. Fisher, M. Kennedy. A. Stevens, and Corpora J. Pattinson. also to Lanee-Coroporal A. Crerar. of the Railway Construction Corps. . Corporal Pattinson and Private 1Timlin returned thanks on behalf or the men. Musical items were given by Mesdames R. and J. -Hewison and Messrs D. and G. Kendrick and D. Bel! provided the music for the dancing, and Mr. R. Hamblv was M.C.
