VISIT TO N.Z. STATEMENT ON WAR AIMS. WELLINGTON, March 19. It was not true to suggest that the war aims of Britain and France were imperialistic as the war in reality, was a battle of liberation and justice fop peoples whose liberties had been destroyed, and also an effort by the Allies to secure conditions upon which a just peace could be established in Europe and the world, declared Mr D. R. Grenfell,' C.B.E. a British Labour M.P. on his arrival at Wellington to-day. Mr Grenfell is a member of the Parliamentary Executive of the British Labour Party, and is . here to represent the United Kiifgdom Branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association at the Centennial celebrations.
In Britain, he said the people were facing all their discomforts with for • titude and patience. They were united in their determination that Herr Hitler is not to dominate Europe, and they realised fully What is at stake for the nations of Europe and for individual citizens. In Britain, the war was regarded as an effort to prevent a further degradation of political conitions, and to remove the menace of a dictatorship which the Germans would establish if they gained military ascendancy. Mr Grenfell will speak to-morrow at a luncheon' given by the New Zealand Branch of the Empire Parliamentary . Association. He was met on arrival by Mr Fraser, Mr D.
