FAMILY ALLOWANCES. PRINCIPLE AT LAST ADOPTED TN BRITAIN. (Received March 19, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. March IS. The Government will introduce after Easter a Workmen’s Compensation Bill. Therein, for the first time in Britain, the principle of family allowances will/ be admitted. The Bill provides for a weekly supplement of five shillings for a wife when her husband fis totally disabled, and three shillings for each child under 15 years.
The scales are proportionately reduced in proportion to incapacity. Under the Bill, minimum pensiohs for the parents of unmarried men killed in the war are to be increased to five shillings a week from two shillings. The present maximum pensions of ten shillings weekly for one parent, and of 12/6 for two parents, is increaseable by five shillings weekly in exceptional circumstances. The claimants’ capacity for self-support is not to be taken into consideration.
