PATRIOTIC FUND
P. AND T. DONATIONS. WELLINGTON, March 19. The Postmaster-General stated today that he took particular pride m announcing that officers of the P. and T. Department in large numbers throughout the Dominion had volunteered to contribute to the patriotic funds, on a regular fortnightly basis. The donations are to be deducted from salaries. The money will be handed over to the nationa. and -patriotic funds, the allocation to be decided by the Director-General of the Department (Mr. Young) in collaboration with the P. and T. Officers’ Guild and . the P. and T. Employees’ Association. N.Z. ANTI-TANK BATTERY. LONDON, March 18. The New Zealand anti-tank battery is going to Egypt soon. KNITTING WOOL. The Westland Patriotic Council has issudd the following circular: In reply to a complaint about the texture of the wool supplied , for knit ting, the secretary at Wellington replies as follows: ‘Tn reply to your letter of the 11th. instant, the wool supplied is only to be made into balaclavas and is not to be made into socks.’ At a later date we will be writing to you regarding the knitting of scarves and mittens, but in the meantime, these are not necessary. Will you please forward the balaclavas, when completed, direct to this office, where they will be packed and despatched ’ overseas. Socks are definitely not required, as these are issued by the Army.” The Mayor of Greymouth (Mr. F. A. Kitchingham) stated to-day that balaclavas should be left at the patriotic depot, Albert Street, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to-day.
