BASKETBALL
WEST COAST TEAM. The West Coast representative basketball team will leave on Friday, for Wellington, to take part in the Centennial Tournament. The West Coast team has, for the last three vears, won the Armstrong Shield for runners-up in the third grade, having narrowly missed the championship honours on each occasion. This year, the team has been promoted to sec-, ond grade in which it will meet) stronger opposition. The second grade tournament will be played in two sections, the winners meeting in the final. On Monday, West Coast, ' will play Manawatu and Southland i Minor and on Tuesday, Taranaki and i Hutt Valley. The teams in the other, ' section are Waikato Ashburton, Wai•gfpj. Poverty Bay and Wanganud Six teams will be competing in the ( first grade, ten in the second grade, ' and six in the third grade. The | West Coast team has been practising consistently under the coaching of Mr. M. Scandrett. Members of the representative | team were entertained recently at her residence byt the president of the West Coast Association, Miss M. E.
