A Popular Win: A popular win was scored o.> Cymr’c when he won at the Westport meeting. He is owned by Miss M. C.

Wilson, whose colours wer« formerly carried by Argentic. Otago Hunt: The annual meeting of the Otago Hunt Club will be held on April 2. The balance sheet shows tnat a piolit of £278 14s lid was made over the annual race meeting. The club holds assets valued at £2053 16s 7d. Holiday Meetings: Those interested in racing will have to “g.rd up their loins" and prepare for action during the next few ua,. as they will be faced by a crowded calendar. Meetings will open on Saturday next at Auckland, Riverton, Tuapeka, Wairarapa, ««nd Feilding, to be followed by racing on Easter Monday. Gaelic Song:

Gaelic Song was got by Hunting Song from Pinthair, by Kiibroney--Black Add, by All Black—Armadd, by Torpedo. Pinthair was raced by Mr R. A. McKenzie, and her wins included a success in the Great Autumn Handicap, Metropolitan Handicap, and Egmont Cup. Yours Truly:

Advice from Sydney says that when Yours Truly won his first race in Australia at Rosehilj on March 2 he carried 8.5 in a very moderate fie d. He had a two lengths’ advantage at the post, but, according to one writer, Ins form was not sufficiently good to arouse any enthusiasm as to his Sydney Cup prospects. Post Positions:

The Australian Jockey Club departed from its usual custom two weeks ago, when barrier positions were drawn at acceptance time, for the first time in New South Wales. Post positions have been known in Victoria as soon as acceptances are taken, but the A.J.C. was loarh to make the change until it was forced to mov« with the times. Paper Slipper:

Paper Slipper, whose racing career, it is stated, may be at an end, won the Stewards’ Handicap in 1936 and 1938, the Members’ Handicap of 1937, the Middle Park Plate of 1937, the James Hazlett Gold Cup of 1938, and Dunedin Guineas of 1936.

At Wingatui: A number of Wingatui horses are at present absent at Riverton and elsewhere, and very little work took place on Saturday morning. All the work was done on the .sand track. Valantua and Night Pal travelled over a circuit at a sound pace, and the latter led the way home at the fiivsh of the lasi half-mile in 51sec. Norseman covered the last six of seven furlongs in Imm 18 l-ssec. t Nightwings, Our and My Mistake worked onc e round the last seven furlongs in lmin 35sec.
