VICTORIAN BUSHFIRES
MELBOURNE, Harch 15. The damage caused by the bush fires which swept Victoria, on Wednesday, probably exceeds £300,000. Most of the fires are now under control. When the fire which destroyed most of Torquay was dying down, goods left on the railways and in evacuated houses were looted. The police later visited the militia camp, and took possession of some goods. More than 200 homes in Victoria were destroyed. Tens of thousands of sheep are lost and hundreds of persons are homeless.
