Halts Foreign Ship ITS FIRST SHOT IN THE WAR (Received March 16. 12.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 15. Firing its first shot in the war, the Sydney coastal fortress to-day halted a Norwegian freighter, whichhad just left port, but was oblivious of signals requiring her to stop. A shot was fired across her bows. The vessel immediately stopped, and re-en-tered the harbour where officers examined the passport papers of a member of the crew. Thereafter the vessel was allowed to leave.
