Trotting Notes i Bayard’ Goes South: The transfer of .better-class paceri J from Auckland to Christchurch continues in no small degree, and th'? ' ’latest to go south is Bavard, w'- i I ' joined -T. B. Pringle’s stable. Mr. H. ' E. Salter, owner of Bayard, stares /that he was reluctant, to make the change, but witb(' the horse in exet’l’'lent ’condition and no prospects of (suitable classes, it was necessary /send him to Christchurch for the ''few months. Although small, Bay- ! ard, who is by Frank Worthy from j/Bonny Logan, a fine nerformer hv /Logan Pointer, is a real' racehorse. ’ and since making his first appeal anco i for Mr. Salter at Cambridge about 14 I months ago has won six l races and

been three times placed for £2155. Last season, when trained by M. Sftewart, he won at Cambridge, Epsom, Wellington, and Hawera. This term, under J. Gee’s supervision, he won twice at Epsom, and was second to Marlene in the Auckland Centennial Trotting Cup.

Imperial Jade: Imperial Jade has been off the scene since the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting last December, when she finished second to Gallant Chief in the New Zealand Champion Stakes, but she has been in steady work and figures among the pacers nominated for the Cheviot Cup. This sister to Indianapolis has developed into a quick beginner and a speedy pacer, and she is expected to reach a good flstandard. , Record Attempt Fails:

The champion pacer, Lawn Derby ' made an unsuccessful attempt to ’lower his Australian mile record of 2min. 2sec. at Snowtown, South Australia, last month. In spite of a strong head wind in the straight, he registered 2min. 2 2-ssec., running the last half-mile in lmin. 0 2-ssec., and breaking his South Australian record 'of 2min. ssec., which he established at Adelaide in 1937. The Snowtown Derby, of £250, 11 miles, was won by Admirer, who defeated W. J. O’Shea’s candidate, Ribbon Robert, by 20 yards in 2min. 46isec. The trotter Derwent Bells, who was in receipt of 72 yards from the two pacers, was third, going 2min. 56Asec. Admirer and Ribbon Robert are by Robert Derby, sire of Lawn Derby, and Derwent Bells is 'by Derwent Derby. Admirer, who previously won the Wanganui Derby, is now a strong favourite for the 'Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney iDer'bies. ' Peter Pilot:

Until recently trained at Ashburton by D. McKendry, Pilot Peter is now located at Addington under L. O. Thomas. A speedy but erratic trotter, Pilot Peter has the ability to win a number of races in his present class, 'but he is an extremely difficult horse to handle and needs conditions to suit him to be seen at his best. Thomas .'has yet to make a complete recovery from the injuries he received at the 'Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting in January, but his damaged leg is’ slowly responding to treatment, and he is now fully able to drive work.

Racing Notes

Kumaira R.C. Nominations: The Kumara Racing Club is assured of excellent nominations for its Easter Monday meeting, but in order to prevent any intending entrants being excluded ’ through a misunderstanding. which has arisen over the closing of the Westland Racing Club nominations to-morrow, the Kumara Club decided last evening to extend the time for the receipt of - nominations. These will not now close until 9 p.m. to-morrow. The Kumara meeting is one of the most popular on the Coast, and there is every indication that this year’s nominations will reach a record number.
