Rain Stops Play WEST COAST CHAM lONSH IPS. With one lawn unplayable owing to an accumulation of rainwater, and showery weather throughout the day, the West Coast Croquet Champ'onsh ps. which opened yesterday, were considerably held up throughout the day. Only five matches were completed, and it is not considered that it will be possible to conclude the tournament before the week-end. There are 24 players competing, including representatives of a number of outside clubs, The Mayoress (Mrs F. A. Kitchingham) declared the tournament open, and wished the players a successful time. Results of yesterday’s games were as follow: CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. ’ ■ First life (first round): Mrs McKay (Greymouth) defeated Mrs Bassett (Hokitika) 26/11; Mrs Whibley (Greymouth) defeated Mrs E. Warnes (Greymouth) 26/9; Mrs Moss (Greymouth) defeated Mrs Howard (Runahga) 26/11; Mrs Robertson (Greymouth) defeated Mrs Wilson (Runanga) 26/17. First Ife (second round): Mrs McCracken (Runanga) defeated Mr Veale (Hokitika) 26/2.
