NAVAL HOSPITAL
North Shore Base COMMANDING POSITION Facing the harbour from the commanding position of a site above the Calliope cliff, a two-storey sick bay is to be built as part of the amenities of he naval base on the North Shore Auckland. It will be reached by the new road constructed up the cliff, and architecturally and in equipment the building will conform to modern hospital practice Built pf concrete, the bay is to be of H-shape design, the arrangement of wards and other rooms being of a nature to suit the grading of the naval patients. There will be the reception room, medical offices and dressing rooms in the central portion of the ground floor, while there will be large wards in the two wings, as well as cmley, mess-room and dorm’toriesj for the staff. The upper floors w’ll contain sun corridors, several sma’lcr wards, an X-ray room, a mess-room, isolation ward and dormitory. Amon i various other offices will be one for eye testing and on one wing wll oe a promenade roof. A small tower :n the centre portion of the block wil be an architectural feature.
