Mrs W. J. Sullivan left last evening on return to Timaru, after a holiday visit to Gr.eymouth.

Mrs. D. Quinlan, Timaru, arrived yesterday on a visit to her mother, Mrs. W. Costello, Thompson Street.

Captain O. J. Hutchison and Lieutenant F. Evenden left yesterday for Burnham, for a week’s training course.

Sister Sybil Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Anderson, High Street, Greymouth, has joined the staff of a military hospital, No. 1 General. Hospital, Tidworth, England.

A _ New York cablegram records the death of Brigadier General Palmer Pierce, a retired officer of the United. States Army, who was formerly a prominent figure.

Messrs Albert Burton and Frederick Joseph, of Auckland, who have been visiting Greymouth in company with Mr Leonard Clark, will leave today on return to Auckland.

The funeral of Mr. Joseph Henry Butcher took place yesterday afternoon at Karoro Cemetery. The. services at Holy Trinity Church and at the graveside were conducted by Ven. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn.

The funeral of Mr. George Wilson took place at Karoro Cemetery, the services at deceased’s late residence, Cowper Street, and at the graveside being conducted by Rev. A. D. Horwell.

Mr J. R. O’Shaughnessy, who has represented the “Press,” Christchurch, at Greymouth for the past two years, will leave to-morrow for Christchurch on a short visit to his parents, prior to joining the Second Echelon in camp at Burnham.
