[Our Own Correspondent]. J REEFTON, January -17. Misses M, C. and E. J. Wilson left for Wellington this morning, and will be present at the Wellington, races tomorrow, where their horse Cymric is engaged. . . . The annual schools excursion oi the Reef ton and .district schools has been fixed for Tuesday, February 13, to take place at Greymouth. Mrs R.. Hindmarsh, senr., of Westport, is on a visit to relatives in. ReefEjlelen Griffen,, youngest daughter of.,Mr and Mrs Joseph Griffin, of Reefton, who has been on the seriously-ill list at the Inangahua Hospital, is now out of danger.. Lieutenant , Barsby, who has bgen in charge of the .Salvation Army station, has-been transferred to Sumner, and left Reeftpn this morn- . ing. Mrs C. Chandler, of Reefton, has been removed to Christchurch for medical attention. A Patriotic Committee was formed last evening at a public meeting Over which Mr J. O’Regan, County Chairman, presided. * There was a representative assemblage, and the following were appointed the Committee. — Messrs W. Gore-Porter,. F. W. Archer, J B. Discaciati, J. Green, Jack Wylde, W. S. Clark, W. Bell, A. P. Watson, Ralph Gibbs, W. B. Auld, J. K. Paterson, W. J. Humphries, James Paterson, with all members of the'lnangahua County Council. It was resolved that Waiuta residents be requested to appoint two representatives. Mr W. B. Auld..was appointed secretary, and W. Clayton, Mirfin, J. Green, and Wylde to arrange a meeting at Waiuta. The following collectors were appointed: Mr J. Wylde, for the. Ikamauta district; Mr W. S. Clark, for Inangahua Junction; Mr J. S. Seawright, for Reefton. Maruia and Waiuta collectors are to be appointed later. The following were appointed an executive committee: —The County Chairman,' and Mr W. B. Auld, with members for the Reefton riding on the County Council, and Reefton members of the committee. It was decided to ascertain if it was’ necessary to haye a permit for functions for raising funds. Mr Auld stated the County Council had paid £39 14s to thg, central' district fund at Hokitika; on the committee of which Mr Clayton is Inangahua representative, T vvho explained the procedure, stating local collections went to the centraU”fund, oh. which Inangahua Committee could .draw..
At a meeting of the Red . Cross Society it ,was r stated- that ,last. month there were presentations to Messrs Fennell, Michell, and Andrews, vyho had. enlisted. Parcels were sent po Captain . Caldwell,.. for distribution; to Inangahua volunteers. Letters of appreciation for gifts were received from F. Scarlett and J. Fennell.
