OCEAN YACHT RACE

TIMES NOT CHECKED. WELLINGTON, January 16. Of the 11 starters in the Centennial Ocean Yacht Race from Lyttelton to Wellington, which started on Saturday, only eight had reached Wellington to-night and only six finished the race. Te Hongi, Maputu, Nanette, and Gypsy arrived during Monday night and this morning. Their appearance off the Heads was the first reliable information of their position since the race started.

No official times have yet been worked out, but Tawhiri is certain to be the winner, with Raukawa second. Nanette or Maputu third, and Gypsy or Te Hongi fifth. Nanette, 11.2-0 p.m. Monday. Te Hongi, 3.36 a.m. .Tuesday. Maputu, 1.1 a.m., Tuesday. Gypsy, 11.30 a.m., Tuesday. Though no word had been heard of these four yachts, no fears were felt for their safety. They did not push through the rough weather during the early stages of the race to the same extent as did Tawhiri and Raukawa. Light winds on Monday delayed their arrival at Wellington. The remaining three yachts in the race put in at points south of Wellington, Tucana (with a broken main boom) and Senorita at Kaikoura, and Arawa (with a split mainsail) at Port Underwood.

The Tucana and the Senorita left Kaikoura for Lyttelton yesterday, with a fair wind.
