TAU HENARE’S FUNERAL. WHANGAREI, January 16. A salute of 100 rifle shots was fired over the grave by the natives wlien Tau Henare, for 24 years member for Northern Maori, was interred at Motatao, yesterday. Undaunted by ‘flood waters covering the narrow access road to the valley, nearly 2,000 attended the hui. The hearse ana a motor bus conveying relatives succeeded in negotiating the water, but over 1,000 mourners walked along the railway line to the cemetery gates, where a wait of an hour followed until the arrival of distinguished southern visitors on the express. Messages of condolence included one from Hon. F. Langstone, on behalf ofi the Cabinet, and Hon. A. Hamilton, for the National Party. Canon Che:rington, assisted by four native clergy, conducted the service.
