Mr and Mrs G. Blair and family leave to-day on a motoring trip to Christchurvh, via the Lewis Pass. Mr and Mrs Hayman and son, who have been visiting Westport, left yesterday on return to Ashburton. Mr and Mrs H. Adams, senr., Palmerston Street, who have been visiting their daughter, Mrs Warren, Takaka, have returned to Westport. Miss Molly Rees, who has been spending holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Rees, Mill' Street, returned to Nelson yesterday. Mr and Mrs T. Vincent, Timaru, were guests of their daughter, Mrs J. Hawke, Palmerston Street, during a holiday visit to Westport. Mr and Mrs A. King, Hokitika, Mr >Hende, Harihari, and Mr and Mrs Eric Berry, Wat.aroa, . are visiting Westport as the guests of Mr and Mrs L. Robertson, Palmerston Street. Mr and Mrs Denys, _ Hartley, of Christchurch, are visiting Westport for the holidays, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs C. Webster, Romilly Street.

Mr and Mrs F. Richards, of Kaiapoi, are spending holidays in Westport. Mr G. Perkins, of Nelson, is visiting Westport, during the course of a tour of the West Coast. Mr and Mrs K. Bird, who have been visiting relatives at Westport, have returned to Christchurch. Miss M. Murphy, who has been visiting her parents, has returned to Wellington. The engagement, is announced of Joseph Leslie, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. Mason, Russell Street, Westport, and Violet Jean, only daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Finlayson, Wakefield Street, Westport. Mr and Mrs B. Gregg and family,. Three Mile, Hokitika, Mr and Mrs J. Growcott and family, Hokitika, Mrs E. Growco't and son, Rimu, and Mrs P. Hagen, Murchison, who have been spending holidays at Westport, left for their homes yesterday.' The' marriage of Miss Agnes . Costello, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Costello, of Westport, to Raymond, son of Mr and Mrs Perry, of Wellington, took place on Saturday evening at St. Canice’s Church. Rev. Father Summers officiated.

Card Tournament: There was an excellent attendance at the Labour Party’s card tournament last evening. Prizes were won as follows: Euchre, Mrs T. Auld 1, Mrs Honey 2, Mrs Ryan 3; fortyfives, Mr S. Lewis. A dainty supper was served by the ladies’ social committee.

Customs Returns: Although a new item under the heading .of additional revenue (War| Expenses) appears in the local Cus-. stoms returns for the month of December, 1939,. the total, collections for that month show a decrease of £247 for the corresponding month of last year.
