YOUNG MAN DROWNED. WELLINGTON, January While fishing from a crossbeam beneath the Miramar wharf late yesterday afternoon, Harry Addley, aged 21, single, living with his parents in Rolleston Street, Wellington, fell into the water and, in spite of a plucky attempt made by anoher man to rescue him. was drowned. The body was recovered with the aid of a grappling iron a short time later. Accompanied by a youth, Addley had been fishing from the wharf s.nce the early, afternoon. About 5.40 p.m. the youth heard a splash, and, on looking round, saw Addley in the water. The. youth immediately called for help, and another, whose name could not be ascertained dived into the water fully clothed. He attempted to reach me drowning man, who was then well under the water, but because of the depth, his effort failedA doctor and four police constables tried artificial respiration but without success. Addley had been subject to lits. HEAD INJURIES. CHRISTCHURCH, January 4. When the motor-car he was driving struck a pole at the corner of Caryie and Queen Streets about 7.30 yesterday morning, Richard Pearson, of 36 Vernon terrace, St. Martins, stftfered heaa injuries. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, and his condition was reported last evening as satisfactory. ; ■
