SYDNEY’S LORD MAYOR
NEW ZEALAND VISIT. AUCKLAND,' November 7. An enthusiastic convert to the sport of trout fishing in New Zealand is the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Sir Norman Nock, who arrived in Auckland by motor-car from Rotorua. When interviewed, he paid a tril/l.e to the Department <jf Internal Affairs and to Mr. A. Kean. Conservator of Fish and Game, for the great strides made to improve fresh water fishing facilities for visitors. Sir Norman spent the week-end at Rotorua, playing golf and fishing at Lake Okataina, as the guest of Mr. Kean. One member of the party landed a 1011 b. trout, and another one of 9’lb., and Sir Norman in his own words, “lost three.” He 'was amazed, ho said, to learn that such fish could actually be caught, and he was taking smoked fish home to show that he was telling no fish story.
“On my motor travels through the North Island I must say that the roads are a credit to the country, and make motoring an absolute pleasure,” continued Sir Norman. Sir .Norman also mentioned inspecting the New Papakura military camp; but declined to compare it. with any of the Sydney establishments, where there were between 10,000 and 15,000 troops already in camp, and a further 10,000 are being drafted. Sir Norman will go to Wellington by air to-morrow to be present at the opening of the Centennial Exhibition. He will leave by the Limited express the same night to return to Auckland. He hopes to have a day’s golf before his departure for Sydney. An informal reception to Sir Norman Nock on his arrival in Auckland was given by the Auckland City Council.
