I The Mackay radio received a message that the British liner Mataroa, which is engaged in the New Zealand service, “has been chased by a sumbarinc of unknown nationality in a position 700 miles south-east of Bermuda.”

Representatives of all units in the Shorn cliff e garrison were present at the funeral to-day, in the Garrison Cemetery, of five German sailors, whose bodies were washed ashore on the Kent coast, last week-end. Full military honours were rendered. Both the Nazi and the old German flags were placed on the coffins. CONTRABAND CARGO. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has made awards of £6/12/6 to each member of the crew of its Wick lifeboat. They were recently out on service five times in six days. They were at sea for nearly 20 hours, and rescued 17 lives.
