TO BE REMOVED

Petrol Restrictions AT END OF NEXT MONTH. CHRISTCHURCH, October 21. The pet,rol restrictions are to be removed altogether, at the end of November, said the Minister for Supply (Mr Sullivan) to-day. In addition, increased allowances would be available during November. The Minister, however asked motorists to aid in conserving supplies by reducing waste. “The petrol allowance for private cars during November will be increased from 15 gallons to 18 gallons for cars over 14 h.p., and from 10 to 12 gallons for cars under that rating.” said Mr Sullivan. "Coupons numbered 9 to 14 inclusive will be used during the month. In addition, the special extra allowance for those who are making holiday trips will be continued during November. This allowance is in addition to that covered by the coupons and is for quantities up to 30 gallons for cars of 14 h.p. and 20 gallons for cars of 14 h.p. or under These allowances are obtained by application to the District Postmaster The petrol position is now such that, from the end of next month, the restrictions will be lifted.

The Minister thanked motorists, petrol station proprietors, and motoring organisations, for their assistance in facilitating the administration of the Oil Fuel Regulations, and he appreciated the manner in which the general public had accepted the restrictions.

He added: "Although the position of present stocks has enabled me to lift the restrictions, I feel that it is hardly necessary for me to remind the motoring public that, while we are at war, it is desirable to avoid anything in the nature of waste, no matter what the commodity. This particularly applies to petrol, which has to be conveyed for thousands of miles to this country. I, therefore, have no hesitation in again appealing to the New Zealand motorist to do his share by not being extravagant or lavish in the use of petrol.”
