ALEXANDER. The Alexander Mines report for August is as follows:—No. 6 level: Extended 29 feet south, making the total distance 37 feet south of rise. The reef has been very narrow and the south end appears to be reached. Rise was put up 9 feet at a point 25 feet north of the main rise, to intersect the reef which is lying fairly flat above the level and averages 3 feet wide. The extension of block of ore northwards is very slow, and the country shows a considerable amount of disturbance. Stoping has been carried out above No. 5 intermediate level north and south of winze. The average width of all faces worked was 4 feet. The sixth stope south of winze extended south for a distance of 44 feet on reef averaging 3 feet wide. Three hundred and seventy tons of orc were sent to the battery for the month. NEW WELCOME. Company’s report for August is as follows: —The main crosscut has been extended 59 feet, from 572 feet to 631 feet completed. At the 595 foot mark another lode formation was intercepted, which proved to be 5 feet wide from wall to wall and consisted mostly of quartz. Dish prospects did not reveal any visible gold. Gold reefing country is now showing in the drive,
carrying a few small quartz leaders. GILLESPIE’S BEACH. Gillespie’s Beach wash-up was 24 ozs. 6 dwts. for 132 hours and 15,888 yards. . 2; OKARITO. The Okarito return was 44 ozs.. 3 dwts. for 1301 hours.
