78,000 MEN
To be Mobilised in Australia [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received September 6, 4.5 a.m.) CANBERRA, September 6. The complete mobilisation of the 78,000 militiamen in Australia in drafts of ten thousand each, was ordered to-night by the Prime Minister (Mr R. G. Menzies). The object of restricting the drafts to 10,000 was to avoid the dislocation of business. Mr Menzies pointed out that universal training could now operate under the Defence Act, but it was not immediately practicable to train and equip additional troops. British Register LIKE A CENSUS.
