BLOCKADE OF GERMANY

The Washington correspondent of the New York “Times” says: Information reaching officials here, although unconfirmed, says that Britain has ordered a naval blockade of Germany, locking up the entrance to the Baltic Sea near the Skagerrak, and stretched across the North Sea, neat* the Scandinavian Peninsula. ORDERS TO BRITISH NAVY. INTERCEPTED IN GERMANY. (Received September 4, 9.10 p.m.) [lndependent Cable]. BERLIN, September 3. It is authoritatively stated that German radio stations have intercepted orders sent to the British Navy to open hostilities against Germany. BRITISH PRECAUTIONS. (Received September 4, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 3. All British merchantmen are now liable to examination by the Contraband Control Service. The convoy system, will be re-introduced. National newspapers are being reduced in size to twelve pages. The Ministry of Supply has established a Board of Wool Control, under Sir Harry Shackleton. Unrest Reported

It is reported from The Hague that Storm Troopers broke up groups of people in the streets and towns of Western Germany who were criticising the hastiness with which Germany had plunged nito war. : There were an exceptional number of marriages yesterday.
