U BOATS WELL OUT
FOUR IN WEST INDIES. NEW YORK, September 3. The correspondent of the United Press of America at Cristobal, Canal Zone, states a Dutch steamer reports ed that four German submarines are fuelling at Curacao, in the Dutch West Indies. French Boat Chased BY SUBMARINES OFF PORTO RICO. (Received September 4, 9.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 4. Simultaneously with the news of the sinking of the “Athenia,” the correspondent of the United Press of America at San Juan, in Porto Rico, cabled that a French freighter, the “Carbet,” ran for shelter into San Juan, after being chased by German submarines. The correspondent added that German submarines have been reported off Jamaica.
