Against Poland ARMY OF 300,000. (Received Seotember 4, 7 p.m.) LONDON, September 3. The Bratislava correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain states: “Slovakia, whose army numbers three hundred thousand men, has proclaimed a declaration of war against Poland.
Pope to Appeal TO WARRING NATIONS. (Received September 5, 2.58 a.m.) VATICAN CITY, September 4. Pope Pius is authoritatively reported to be preparing an appeal to the warring nations on the following points:— (1) Not to use poison gas. (2) Not to bombard civilians in open cities. (3) The good treatment of prisoners; and (4) Respect for property and livestock in the captured towns.
