TOur Own Correspondent]. The Mayor (Mr A. B. Spiers) presided at the monthly meeting of the Kumara Borough Council, and there were also present: Crs Murphy, Wise, Little, Pamment, McLean, Lawrence, Passmore. Mr M. McMahon wrote asking the Council to reconsider its decision not to grant a permit for the erection of a building in Main Street and it was decided that the applications be not granted until plans ‘ and specifications are presented for aprpoval. Mr A. Mclntosh wrote regarding the condition of Union Street, which was now almost entirely impassable, and asking that something be done to remedy the evil. Mr S. M. I Case wrote, asking the Council to bridge three small creeks on Union Street, to allow the removal of a hut further along the street, also that the road be repaired.—lt was resolved that the request be refused, and that Mr Case be notified to desist from
further damage to the road by snig- ; ging poles thereon; also that he oe ’ requested to repair the damage al- ' ready done, within one week, otherwise legal proceedings would be taken. Mr W. H. Stewart wrote complain- ‘ ing of the state of the footpath in 5 front of his residence, the Chair- ! man of Public Works was instructed ■ to arrange to remedy the position. Mr| ■ William Rowe wrote regarding the accumulation of water on his section . in Tui Street, and asking that a drain be cut to carry away the water. Applicant is to be informed that a drain had already been cut, and it was not proposed t 0 incur any further expense in the matter. The Mayor stated that he had had a conversation with an engineer of the Public Works Department regarding the putting in of ■ a line of pipes under the main high- ' way to carry off the surplus water ; from Fifth Street and he understood ‘ the work would be put In hand short- ‘ ly. Considerable discussion took place { on the number of hawsers visiting the 5 town, many of whom evaded paying j the annual license fee, and it was re- ; solved that a letter be written to the • , Minister of Internal Affairs, with a | £ view to having the licensing fee in- I creased.
