GRAB DREDGE-TUG

GREY HARBOUR BOARD Accepts Tender £40,000 LOAN SECURED. A special meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board was held last evening at which arrangements were furthered towards securing for this port, a grab-dredge-tug. The Board at last, meeting had appointed a deputatron consisting of the chairman (Mr J. Ryall), Mr A. H. McKane, and the secretary, Mr W. B. Gilbert, to proceed to Wellington with the object of arranging for the raising of a loan of £40,000 for the purchase of a dredge of this type. At last evening’s meeting the deputation submitted to the Board a report indicating that its mission had been entirely successful. An offer of a loan had been obtained from the Government at the current interest rate. The Board decided to accept the offer of the loan. A resolution was also passed expressing thanks to the members of the deputation for their successful efforts, and. also to Hon. P. C. Webb (Minister of Mines), Hon. P. Fraser (Acting Prime Minister), Mr Jas. O'Brien M.P., Messrs S.. Jones. (Private Secretary 7 to the Minister of Mines), and Ashwin (Secretary to the Treasurer) for the assistance given by them in arranging for the loan. The Board further decided to accept the tender of the firm of Henry Robbins, Ltd., of Leith, Scotland, fot the supply of a grab-dredge-tug, at a cost of £40,990.
