Beau Vite Wins FAST TIMES AT SYDNEY. (Received September 3, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 3. The New Zealander, Beau Vite, opened his account in Australia on Saturday, by winning the Canterbury Stakes, and beating both Gold Rod and Brazant in the good time of 1.121 for six furlongs. The other visiting New Zealander, Paddy The Rip, weakened in the run home in the Ashbury Handicap, of one mile and a furlong, won by Rathlin in the course record time of 1.521. . Results were as follows:— Canterbury Stakes.—Beau Vite, 8.0 (Cook) 1; Gold Rod, 9.2 (McCarten) 2; Brazant, 9.2 (Coutts) 3. Six started. Won by a length; three lengths. Time 1.121. Canterbury Guineas.—Bonny Loch, 8.5 (Cook) 1; Marenge, 8.5 (McCarten) 2; Dashing Cavalier, 8.5 (Coutts) 3. Six started. Won by a head; a . neck. Time 1.53, a race record. W. Cook who rode Beau Vite, is confident that the colt will win the A.J.C. Derby. “No colt I have ridden has so impressed me as a prospective Derby winner,” he said. Jamieson’s stable is throwing down the gauntlet to Defaulter. It intends, with High Caste to tackle the New t Zealander in Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick next Saturday. MELBOURNE, September 3. Ajax has now won 132,500 pounds and has thus displaced Nightmach in the list of winning racehorses. At Caulfield races the Whittier Handicap resulted:—Hilton (by Beaupere from Awaken) 9.4 (Morenmount) 1; Tetreen 8.9 (A. Reed) 2; Connaru 8.5 (Heather) 3. Twenty started, including Lynch Law and Perince Quex. Won by a neck; two lengths. Time 1.153. « CAULFIELD RACES. IRecevied September 3, 7.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, September 3. At the Caulfield races the Meinsie Stakes resulted.—Ajax, 9.il (Badger) 1; E) Golea, 9.4 (Dewhurst) 2- Orteile’s Star, 8.13 (Heather) 3. The other starter was Elange. Ajax led throughout and won untroubled oy two lengths and a half, with a length and a-half between second and third. Elange was a bad last. Time 1.58. The two divisions of the Warristoa Handicap, for three-year-olds, were won respectively by Skirl and Pure’ Gold. The latter registered an excellent Derby trial, overwhelming the field in heavy going, and winning by two lengths.
Racing Notes Grey J.C. Acceptances: Greymouth Jockey Club acceptances for the meeting at Omoto on September 9, close to-morrow. ( Ohmaha: I Ohmaha was handicapped as a I maiden for the Greymouth Jockey l'Club meeting and his revised weight , for the Stewards and Flying Handicap is now 9st. and 8.9 respectively; | Misfortune: | Ron Bell, apprenticed to C. J'.' Walsh at Kaiata, had the misfortune to sustain a dislocated collar-bone, when Waitaka fell.: in a work-out gallop at Omoto last week.
