Sent to England BRITISH AMBASSADOR. FLIES FROM BERLIN TO LONDON. LONDON, August 25. Sir N. Henderson is flying to London, to report on his conversation with Herr Hitler. x An earlier message stated that it was learned in London that Sir N. Henderson called on the Fuehrer, at Herr Hitler’s own request, but the meeting is not yet officially confirmed.
It is confirmed that Herr Hitler received Sir N. Henderson, together with the French Ambassador, in the presence of Herr von Ribbentrop. He also received the Italian and Japanese Ambassadors. HITLER'S PROPOSALS. TO BRITAIN. RUGBY, August 25. It is reported from Berlin that tne British Ambassador (Sir Neville Henderson) has seen Herr Hitler. As Sir Neville Henderson had received no instructions from London to seek an interview with Herr Hitler, it was presumed here that the meeting took place on the latter’s initiative. Later it was stated in official quarters: “Sir Neville Henderson who, as has already been reported had a conversation to-day with Herr Hitler, is flying to London to-morrow morning in order to make a report to the Foreign Minister (Lord Halifax). Sir Neville Henderson is not expected to make a long stay in Britain.”
It is stated in British Government circles that Sir . Neville Henderson bears proposals requiring an answer from Britain which may necessitate the summoning of Parliament on Monday. (Received August 27, 6.0 p.m.) LONDON, August 26.
Sir N. Henderson reached Croydon from Germany to-day at 12.15. He proceeded at once, by car, to Downing Street, where Mr. Chamberlain and Lord Halifax were waiting. A considerable crowd haj assembled at Downing Street in anticipation of important consultations, and in order to watch the comings and goings of Ministers and defence chiefs. After three hours’ conversation at Number Ten, Downing Street, Mr. Chamberlain and Sir N. Henderson later had an audience with the King, and they detailed the Ambassador’s interview with Herr Hitler.
The Cabinet met at 5 p.m. to-day, and it. rose at 8.54 p.m. It Is reassembling again to-morrow. No Cabinet communique was Issued tonight.
