N.Z. Authoress “ROBIN HYDE’S” DEATH IN LONDON. (Received August 24, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 24. The death has occurred of the New Zealand novelist, Iris Wilkinson, whose nom de plume was “Robin Hyde." She was in China after the start of the war there. CONTRACTS FOR NOVELS. WELLINGTON, August 24. Advice has been received from London of the death of Robin Hyde, Miss Iris Wilkinson, the New Zealand authoress and journalist. Her parents reside in Wellington. Her adventures in China during the past two years, which nearly cost her her life, will be recalled. At the time of her death, Miss Wilkinson was under contract to publish two more novels. GAS POISONING. DEPRESSION EVIDENT. [lndependent Cable.] LONDON, August 24. The New Zealand writer, Miss Iris Wilkinson, was found by a friend at her home’ in London, her death having resulted from gas poisoning. Oxygon was administered, but without avail. The High Commissioner for New Zealand, Mr. W. J. Jordan, visited Miss Wilkinson on Monday. He found her depressed, and anxious to return to China, where she had spent some months in the war zone. Mr. Jordan offered to help her to return to New Zealand.
