TATT'S FORTUNE

MELBOURNE, June 15. The Full Court has decided that £25,000 of the fortune left by the late Mr. George Adams, promoter of Tattersall’s Sweeps, is to be divided among five parties. This is the effect of the decision of , the Full Court which, with certain variations, dismissed appeals covering the distribution of Mr. Adams s assets. Mr. Adams died in 1904, and the questions dealt with affected the in[terpretation and validity of certain provisions in his last will, executed on March 16, 1901. The issues were tangled. „ , The cumulative effect of the decision is that about £25,000 will go to the estates or assignees of David Hastie ■Harvey, Elliott Grant, Gerald Barry, Thomas Lyons, and William Alexander Finlay. , . .. n Under the will, one-tenth of the profits of the sweep business was se aside to the furtherance of the business. Of the money thus received by the trustees, some was spent on the business some was devoted to charities, and some was accumulated. Mr. Justice Clark, in Tasmania, decided that after 21 years from Mr. Adams’s death the clause setting aside money for the extension of the business was void, except with the agreement of the beneficiaries. The parties in the cases were Augustus Edmund Blair, of Sydney; Johi Lewis Wildes, of Sydney: and Erskine Clarence Watchorn, of Hobart, trustees of the will: Andrew Baskervi le Curran, of East Tamar (Tas., ano Alf- ' red Basil Crisp, of Hobart, representing the sweep business’s beneficial les ' under the will; David Harvey, of Lower Sandv Bay (Tas.), representing the property beneficiaries; the Pernetual Tru tee Co., of Sydney, and William Charles Adams of Sydney, trustees ol the estate of William Joseph Adams.
