[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, May 19. Heavy rain fell last night, but the weather cleared this morning. A by-election for the Ross Borough Council resulted: Mr John Holmes 90; Mr Ross Jones 85. Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, passed through Hokitika this forenoon on his way to South Westland. Canterbury Automobile Association is requesting the Government to establish at Franz Josef Glacier a public camping ground, and to have on inspection made of the site by Messrs G. S. Morris and J. S Hawkes. Hon. H. G. R. Mason is spending the week-end at the South Westland Glaciers. Visitors to Hokitika staying at Hotel Westland include:—Mr and Mrs A. Roberts (Ward, Marlborough), Mr and Mrs P. G. Greenwood and family, Mr A. I. Cottrell (Christchurch). Mr I. Z. Gaelic. Mr M. Keen (Wellington), Mr E. Gagahan (Nelson).

The senior football match 10-mor-row at Cass Square is United v. Kiwis Excelsior seniors travel to play Cobden. A junior game Ross v. Kokatahi will be played at Ross, while the third grade game Rovers v. Kiwi takes place on Cass Square. Excelsior seniors are: James Oldham, Kulsen, Parker. Gilman. HaviH. Finch, Johnson. Tainui.
