SHOOTING MYSTERY
Motorist Killed while driving at night. WELLINGTON, April 26. About 9.45 last night, John William Brady, 26, a labourer employed by thei Hutt County Council, at Paraparaumu, was driving a three-seater car on the main highway on the Wellington side of Paekakarlki Hill, accompanied by two companions. Suddenly he collapsed over the wheel, and tne car ran into a bank. The two others were of opinion that Brady had taken a fainting hr. They were K. M. Davies, of 62 Pilmuir Street, Lower Hutt, and E. 1-'. Ryan, of 126 a High Street, Lower Hutt. They escaped with slight cuts. Brady was taken to hospital by private car. There, after an examination of the body, the police came to the conclusion that there was a possibility of foul play, and this morning, a post-mortem was held. It resulted in the discovery that the vitcim had been shot in the back of the head. Tile bullet later was extracted and handea to the scientific department at police headquarters, for examination. Meantime, the car was taken chariktof by the police, and taken to Paekakariki. Superintendent Lewin, accompanied by detectives, left tins morning, to examine it.
STRUCK BY STRAY BULLET. GISBORNE, April 26. Struck by a stray pea-rifle bullet while walking over the hills near Wanui beach yesterday, Robert McConnell, 15, was admitted to hospital last night, an operation being successful and the boy’s condition being satisfactory. The source of the shot was a mystery, as - neither McConnell nor his two companions saw anyone in the vicinity or heard the .shot.
