DOCTORS” HOSTILITY
TO SOCIAL SECURITY
Conference Afoot
iPer Press Association.]
NEW PLYMOUTH, March 31. Doctors in Taranaki, it is understood, 1 are unanimously opposed to the Social Security Act as far as it affects them through the medical benefits. The recent statements in the press to the effect that, the doctors were in agreement with the Government’s proposals are emphatically denied. It was stated to-night that, if anything, the attitude bf the doctors was hardening against the Government proposals, and that indications, as one doctor put it, pointed to an early showdown. One Taranaki doctor said to-night thaUthe Government was very slow in submitting full details to the profession. Some details of the scheme were known to the doctors, but not all, including some of the more important ones. Taranaki doctors met at Stratford last night, when an agenda paper for a conference of doctors at Wellington next Wednesday, was discussed. It was decided that Taranaki would fall in line with whatever decision the conference reached.
