NELSON CREEK NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent] The annual ball of the local branch of the Women’s Institute took place last Saturday, music being supplied by the Marina Orchestra, Mrs Ord playing extras. Mrs Rae and Mr S. Jennings won both the Lucky Spot dance and the Monte Carlo, while the
prize for lucky partners went to Miss White and Mr L. Molloy. Mr Arthur Lamberton was M.C. On the domain on Saturday the football season was opened when Marist juniors played Nelson Creek in <1 friendly game. Some promising form was displayed by members of both sides. Marist, playing two men short, were beaten 21 to 10. Mr M. O Brien was referee. The handicap tournament run by the local Tennis Club have
reached finality. In the ladies final Miss lola Tuck (-8) beat Miss Joyce Osmond-Smith (-12) 55/53 after a very good game in which there were many long rallies. Jack Hynes (plus 15), the I youngest member of the club, and incidentally a primary school hoy, won the men’s final, defeating G. Porter (-30) 50/46. This lad shows very promising form and should develop into I a very good player. Both Miss Tuck and Mr Hynes are to be congratulat- | ed on their success. The handsom j cups are to be presented at a social 1 evening in the near future.
