HOKITIKA, March 30. The Hokitika Poultry Club last night decided to hold its annual show on July 21 and 22. Objections to mining valuations of the Westland County Council’s mining valuer (Mr E. T. Stoop) on certain of their mining privileges were heard by the Assessment Court from Arahura Gold Dredging Ltd., Kanieri Gold Dredging Ltd., Rimu Gold Dredging Co. Ltd., Gold Mines of N.Z. Ltd., and Kanieri Electric Ltd. The objections were all adjourned till next Court day. Mr J. A. Murdoch, County Chairman, sent a message to Messrs Gough, Gough, and Hamer and the Buller County Council, congra’ulating them on the land-clearing demonstration near Westport. Air Travel (N.Z.) Ltd’s, passengers yesterday and to-day included the following:—Bruce Bay to Hokitika, Mrs W. A. Condon; Hokitika to Bruce Bay, Mr 11. Harrington; Haast to Landsborough, Mr McGarry; Franz Josef to Dunedin, Miss D. N. Theomin. At i‘s annual meeting last night, the Excelsior Football Club elected officers as follows: Patron, Mr F. Freitas; president, Mr H. M. Coulson; vicepresidents, Messrs H. Steel, R. G. Millen, C. Schroder, C. Preston, A. Thompson, E. Shaw, K. Aitken, M. Houston sen., and Miss C. Devaney; club captain, Mr L. L. Ross; hon. secretaries, Messrs A. Stevenson and D. J. Spence; coaches, Messrs R. King (senior), G. W. Thompson (junior), and S. G. Havill (third grade); selection committee, coach and field captain of each team; committee, Messrs H. Thompson, L. L. Ross, S. G. Havill, W. R. Pedder and a representative from each team; delegates to Sub-Union, Messrs A. Stevenson and F. Freitas. The following new members were elected: A. S. McDonald, J. Ballantyne, R. Ferguson, G. W. Thompson, J. Veale, A. Gillman, and A. Staines. II was decided to enter three teams in the relay races a‘ the sports on April 15. It was decided to send letters of appreciation to Messrs A. Agnew, C. Bruhn, and A. Mitchell, who have, left the district, for their past services’to the club, and likewise to Mr J. Dale.

capital expenditure fund account £413 10s 4d. with £l2O transferred and interest £l5 10s lid, now stands at £549 is 3d. The estimates were considered. and was resolved that the

amount to be levied for the year 1939--40 be £647. The plans and specifications for the new Fire Station were approved, and application will be made to the Local Bodies Loan Board for approval of a loan of £2OOO. Mrs Davidson and family wrote acknowledging letter of sympathy. The Auditor-Gen? eral advised approval of accounts for year ended March 31, 1938. Superin-

tendent J. J. Mclntosh repor’ed that since last meeting the brigade had not had a fire call. He recounted the success of the brigade’s team at the Wanganui demonstration, and complimented the team and trainer, Depu’y-Sup-crintendent Ross, who at the sale of gear after the demonstration purchased a double-headed hydrant at a low price. The brigade needed 300 ft of 2iin. hose, and three sets of couplings. It was resolved to congratulate Dep-uty-Superintendent Ross and his team on lheir success, and to approve of the purchase made.
