The Hawke’s Bay 'Jockey Club’s meeting opened in brilliant weather. The attendance was good, and the track was fast. The totalisator handled £11,498, compared with £11,720 10s last year, a decrease of £222 10s. Results:—
RIVERSLEA HURDLES.—2 SMALL BOY (A. Lord) 1; 1 Hanover (McDowell) 2. Also started: 3 Sir Nigel (pulled up), 4 Parry (fell). Won by three-quarters of a length. Time 2.48 1-5.
POUKAWA MAIDEN STAKES.—I THE RING (B. H. Morris) 1; 2 Defray (Callahan) 2; 7 Golden Melody (Forsyth) 3. Also started: 5 Solinit, 3 Po Atarau, 10 Bryda, 9 Penny Farthing, 4 Kalika, 6 Arabic, 8 Eola, 11 Tyderabad. Won by three lengths; a head. Arabic was fourth. Time 1.10 2-5.

Yours Truly and Ivar showed ( tbe way into the straight, with Play .On and then Dainty Sue challenging, i Dainty Sue taking charge in the last itwenty yards to win by a length from I Yours Truly, and with Play On and Ivar together next, a length away clear of Taitoru, Big Dook, Pennycomequick, and Siegmund. Time 2.5 4-5. NURSERY HANDICAP.—I LUTANIST (C. Goulsbro) 1; 5 Charing Cross (Howell) 2; 3 Dainty Dell (Callahan) 3.
