Cahn’s XI v. N.Z.
A WASHOUT YESTERDAY.

Light rain has been falling since 8.30 o’clock this morning but conditions for cricket at the Basin Reserve at 11 a.m. were fair. The wicket and outfield although damp, were in good order. The captains inspected the wicket at 11.10 a.m., and decided to make another inspection at noon. Light rain was still falling at 11.30 a.m. the time originally set for the match to begin. The wicket was inspected again at 12.30 p.m., and a decision was made to have lunch at one o’clock, and to inspect the wicket again at 1.30 p.m. The twelfth man in the New Zealand team is Rainbird. Sir J. Cahn’s team is as follows:— Hearne, Dempster, Jackson, Maxwell, Walsh, Dyson, Hardstaff, Oldfield, Phillipson, 'Smith and Watts. WELLINGTON, March 10.
Rain prevented play in the cricket match between Sir J. Cahn’s team and the New Zealand Eleven at the Basin Reserve to-day : At 1.30 p.m., it was decided to make a start at 2.15, if no further rain fell. The gates were opened. A few hundred people filed on to the ground. A heavy shower fell about 2.10, and it increased to a downpour about 3.15 o’clock. At 4 p.m. play was called off for the day. Play will start at 11.30 a.m. to-morrow, if the weather permits. AFRICANS’ AGGREGATE. [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] DURBAN, March 9. In the fifth cricket Test, stumps were again drawn early, owing to the bad light. The wicket was easy, and the batting brighter before lunch, 64 runs being scored in half an hour. Afterwards, play lapsed into dreariness. Viljoen unluckily chopped a ball into his wicket. Melville made his first Test century. His innings occupied 203 minutes.
