The same number of pairs of miners were in the cavil, although it is understood that the Management intend to place a few more pairs, if it is possible, to find the places. A local agreement has been reached whereby local truckers with the necessary experience are to be engaged as miners with experienced men as mates. This procedure is a just reward for the trucker who asks for his turn on,the coal. THq Company have recently found out that the depression years when experienced mine workers were on the dole and in slave camps at 15s per week, were most detrimental, since experienced men are now urgently required to fulfil the steady orders since the Labour Government was elected to power. The Waimangaroa residents .are hoping to have the benefit of the electricity from Denniston in the very near future. The hold-up been due to a shortage of licensed wiremen to wire the houses. Roads: Due undoubtedly to et lengthy period of heavy rain, the roads are in a verdy bad condition for pedestrians. Many car owners are complaining of the dangerous state of the bridge near the top of the Waimangaroa-Dennis-ton road. A grant has been made for this bridge, and it is understood the work will be commenced in the near future. The tennis courts are nearing completion. The levelling off of the section for the new school is proceeding very slowly. Apparently there is no labour available. Mi- C.
