REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] REEFTON, December 12. An accident occurred this morning to a party proceeding on their way to work at Stevenson’s Flat. They were travelling on a lorry driven by Mr. N. When nearing a watercourse the pace of the lorry was. lessened, and an attempt was made to avoid a stone that had fallen on to the road. The lorry ran up the bank, and the overhanging 1 branch of a tree swept the shelter off the framework of carriage, the men with it, and depositing them forcibly on the ground. .The men injured were Charles Hinton, P. jun., Andrew Hardie, and A. Cohen, and they, were brought into town to hospital by Mr. Haldane in the , lorry after being, attended to. by two medical men who Were camped in the vicinity. Mr. Hintoh, who is the worst sufferer, sustained broken ribs and injuries to his back; P. Galway,, . jun., . back injuries; Andrew Hardie, injuries to right arm; and A. Cohen, injury to shoulder. In the early, hours of this .morning another thunderstorm occurred, the peals of thunder *being almost deafening and also vibrated through the dwellings. Rain continued to fall heavily to-day. The Black’s Point school children’s ball on Saturday night was a great success in every way. A large number of fancy costumes were displayed, some of these being strikingly original. The music for the dances was supplied by Mrs. Nicholls and Mrs. Eklund played an extra. The M’s.C. were. Messrs Marshall and L. Robinson. The supper dispensed was excellent. Mr. A. Bolitho, Secretary of the School Committee, returned thanks to all assisting in the great success of the evening, as well as to those who had come from a distance on such a stormy night.
