FRANCE AND ITALY Demonstration Stopped [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] ROME, December 11. It is reliably stated that no furthei anti-French demonstrations will be permitted in Italy. MARSEILLES, December 11. Fifteen' thousand Corsicans at a mass meeting, protested against the grave insult involved in Italy’s claim for Corsica, and declared that Corsica should remain under French pro!oction. ■ ■ PARIS, December 11. The Government banned lhe Corsican ex-servicemen’s rally, but hundreds assembled at the Arc- de Triomphe, and placed wreaths on the Unknown Soldier’s grave, and demonstrated in favour of France. The Government did not ban a similar demonstration at Nice. Protests against the Italian claim to Tunisia, Corsica, Nice and Savoy are pouring in to the Government from all parts of France. TUNIS, December 11.

Experts recommend strengthening the French military position at Tunis, as France’s first line of defence. They urge that all French North African possessions be held at all costs. A procession of 200 French and Arabs youths, swelled ‘to 20,000 by passersby, tried to march against the Italian Consulate ■at Sousse, but was barred and dispersed by the police.., PARISI December 10. The Chamber of Deputies passed a vote of confidence in M. Daladier’s Government by 315 votes to 241, with 53 abstentions. ! \ The Governmentfs position was strengthened by a fighting speech by the Prime Minister on' the resumption of the session. M. Daladier faced an angry, agitated Chamber, but he sat down amid prolonged applause M. Daladier challenged his opponents either to vote him out of office or permit him to continue his programme. He violently attacked the Communists for the incitement of the workers, and appealed for peace with Germany. He pointed but that there was no hope of peace with France’s neighbours unless the Internal friction was ended. Five Denain trade union officials have been arrested and charged with inciting men to refuse to work overtime for national defence. LE HARVE, December 11.■ The union has called off the ’strike. The men will resume to-morrow.
