Won by 15 lengths, with a head between second and third. , Radu? Notes Beaupartir: Beaupartir, who ran second to Defaulter in the New Zealand Derby, has been training satisfactorily and should be a much fitter horse when saddled up for the Great Northern Derby. White Gold: The Hunting Song filly White Gold is striding along freely in her work and should shape well when next seen in public. Wotan: Wotan is to go to Ellerslie 1-0 contest the Auckland Cup, and the A.R.C. Handicap. It was originally intended to race him at Woodville, but the smallnes s of the stakes and the risk of incurring a rehandicap caused the ( idea to be abandoned. He has made good progress since racing at Sternchase: According to a Hastings report, Sternchase, who is improving all the time, will race at Awapuni at Christmas, his special mission being the Champion Hack Handicap. Anopheleb: An Auckland report states that gtfi is not wee'll with Anopheles, and the filly has been absent from the track during the past week.
Promising Maidens: J. Brown’s maiden Kokako is becoming more solid and he is hariging on bettei* in his track trials. Recently he easily held Daisy Chain over half a mile in 52isec. Another speedy maiden who has been pleasing in her work is Fiancee, who shortly after Kokao’s gallop ran 511 sec in beating Filbert. Dark Eagle is worth keeping in mind for a distance hack race during the holiday racing. He is to race at Manawatu. Windsor Chief:
Windsor Chief, who is looking robust and healthy, was left in the Great Northern Derby in error, but it is now possible that if he displays promising form at Christmas he may be taken t 0 Ellerslie for New Year’s Day. Auto Sweep:
Auto Sweep is making a good recovery from the trouble that prevented him starting at Feilding, and his trainer has hopes of starting him during the holidays. Ned Cuttie:
Ned Cuttie is in active work again, having benefited by his short spell. He is infusing his customary dash into his tasks, and he should earn some stake-money during the holidays, as he rarely runs a bad race.
J-ameness of Kelly: The Auckland Cup candidate, Kelly, developed lameness after his gallop last Tuesday, and his condition is causing his trainer some anxiety. He was not worked at Ellerslie recently, and F. Gilchrist stated there is every possibility of his Cup preparatibn being discontinued. Kelly had been galloping brilliantly on the track during the last week or two, and was regarded as a dangerous light-weight in the Auckland Cup.
Plans for Peerless: Plans, for Peerless are to race her in the Manawatu Cup prior to the Great Northern Derby. Owing to the accident to S. Wilson, another rider will have to be obtained for her at Ellerslie. Peerless may go directly from Auckland to Sydney on January 6, provided her form at Auckland comes up to expectations.
