lour Own correspondentj REEFTON, .December 5. A thuunderstorm yesterday after--1 noon, about 1.30 o’clock, , was accompanied by lightning and heavy showers. The rain lasted less than half an hour, and when the hills cleared oi mist those above Crushington bore a coat of snow. . . Several members of the Committee of the Keefton Trotting Clup including the secretary, Mr C. J. Willis, attended the New srignton trots on Saturday in an endeavour to interest .the owners .of trotters in the Keefton Club’s meeting on December 29th. -They report having had a most favourable reception by both owners and . trainers with promises'ior large nominations, and general approval oi the Ciub’s programme. Coming as the meeting does, between the Westport and Greymouth Trotting Clubs’ meetings, it assists to make up. the circuit. The Returned Soldiers’ Association held a reunion in the Oddfellows* Hail on Saturday evening, when there was a large gathering including representatives from all the brancnes on tne West Coast. Mr W. G. Porter presided and welcomed the visiting members, Various toasts were proposed and honoured, and were interspersed with items, songs being given by Crompton, Anderson, Brooker, Burnett and others. A very harmonious evening, was brought to a close about 11.30 o’clock by members joining hands and singing “Auld Lang Syne.” Mrs W. Bailey and her . brother, Mr D. Dobson, left thja. afternoon for Blenheim, to be present at the funerai of their father, Mr Dudley Dodsoji, who died there yesterday evening. The deceased was well known on the West Coast, having been Engineer and Town Clerk for the Westport Borough Council for a term of years. He saw service at Samoa during the Great Wai,, and on his return settled in Blenheim Four rinks of bowlers from thei Greymouth Club yesterday played the Reefton Club here. A thunderstorm broke over the town just as the visitors arrived, but the weather thpn cleared and remained fine for the. rest of the afternoon. The gregn was in perfect condition. The . Band pluyed a programme. Greymouth won by 104 to 67. -Following^were the scores Greymouth rink being mentioned first : Cogswell, King, Strongman ana cer 27 beat Noble, Hunter, McMillan, Cleaver 12; Coffey. Williams,-McCork.-indale and Moss 22, beat Fennell, McGill, Russell, and Auld 20; Smith, Sotheron, Southward ,and ■ Whibley, 22 beat Wight, Dickie, Clarke ana Buist T 9; Denton, Phillips, Tate and Kilgour 33 beat Draper, Wood Potter and Mori 16. At the conclusion of the game Mr J. B. Auld thanked the Grey Club for their visit and for the exceL lent game they had given the Reefton players, also for the donation they had givein the Band. Mr Tait in replying, thanked the Reeftpn Club for tne invitation to be present and for .the excellent afternoon tea the ladies had provided. It was the first time they had played to Band music, which mtHe the game all the more enjoyable, and hoped they would have more such pleasurable games. He extended a invitation to the Reefton bowlers to visit Greymouth at any time and they would be pleased to play them. Mr Whibley (President of the West Coast Centre) hoped Reefton would send at least one rink to the tournament to be held at Westport early next year. Previous to the Band dispersing, Mr L. Robinson, on behalf of the 'Band, thanked the Reeftpn Club fpr the invitation to be present, and hoped it would not be. the last time they would be invited there. He wished to thank Mr Moss for his donation to the Band and also the member. of the 'Grey Club for their donation to the Band’s funds. Mr J. B. Auld moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Band for their visit, which was carried by acclamation and the President, Mr R. McMillan, expressed the hope that this was only the first of many such occasions when the Band would be present. The following programme was played by the Band:—March, waltz, “Felicia ; hymn, “Sun of My Soul”; fantasia, “Svlvan Scenes”; march, “Fearless and Free”; march, "Eclipse”; waltz “Fond and True”; march, "Ferndale”.
