AUCKLAND, November 29,
Final preparations for the departure of H.M.S. Achilles on Friday morning for England are at present being made. The cruiser will leave Devonport naval base at 10.30 a.m., and will not be seen again at Auckland until about May next. When Commodore Glennie transfers his command to Captain Rivett-Car-nac, the cruiser Leander will automatically become the flagship of the squadron. An outstanding feature of the change will be that it has to be made in the absence of Captain Rivett-Carnac and his ship, since the Leander is at present engaged on a special cruise in the Pacific. Because of this, none of the usual ceremony which accompanies the transfer of a commodore’s flag will be possible, and it is likely that signals exchanged by radio between the two ships will bo the only tangible evidence of the change.
